Rejoice always, Pray continually, Give thanks
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 - Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
I watched a short Thanksgiving video recently that focused on this Scripture from Thessalonians. It had various people praying through their situations, and each had a difficult scenario - job loss, terminal illness, a friend in need, etc. The video got me a little teary-eyed, both due to the challenging scenarios that tugged at my heart and the praise given back to Christ.
In the end, each person had hope and gave thanks to God regardless of their despair, sadness, or concern. It's one thing to say that you would give thanks no matter the situation; it's another to truly do it.
No matter what joys or sorrows are upon each of us this Thanksgiving holiday, may we stop and think about reasons to praise the Lord. Some people do "30 days of thanks" during the month of November. These can be the smallest of things, and each is worth gratitude. We can rejoice in these, pray, and give thanks.
As I write this morning, I see the sun shining through the tree branches onto the autumn leaves below - Thank you, Lord, for the beauty in nature. I can envision Your love shining down on us as the sun shines on the fallen leaves.
